The Inspiration to King Prithivi Narayan Shah.

Although king Prithivi Narayan Shah got victory over the valley but it was not possible in his first attempt. The first sttempt to succeed over the valley was very horrible. He faced the big defeat in that war. However, he survived in the war because of the tradition of the malla’s soldiers. Malla soldier refused to kill the king because he was just "an ordinary soldier and ordinary soldiers should not kill kings" was the thinking prevalent that time says historician Dahal, Dr. Peshar.

After that defeat, Prithvi Narayan Shah made a narrow escape and stayed over at an old lady's house. There he got an inspiration to succeed over the valley. She gave him rice (traditional Nepalese food) to eat and Prithivi jumped right into the center of it and tried eating it. Unfortunately, since rice is hotter in the center, he was burnt. The lady laughed and unknowingly mocked him saying "Why did you do like that Prithivi Narayan Shah? Everyone knows that you should conquer the outside states first, paralyzing the land-locked state, and then proudly walk over to the throne."
Prithivi Narayan Shah carefully took the advice to heart and moved on to his next campaigns leading him into victory.

The Unification of the Modern Nepal.

The Unifier of the modern Nepal, Prithivi Narayan Shah (1723 - 1775 A.D), was the ninth generation descendant of the Shah Family. The First King of the Shah was Dravya Shah (1559 - 1570 A.D.), the founder of the Gorkha kingdom. Prithvi Narayan Shah was the son of King Nara Bhupal Shah, and he acended the throne of the Gorkha kingdom in 1743 A.D. when he ascended the throne of the Gorkha kingdom, the modern Nepal wae divided into many smaller kingdoms termed as the Baise Rajya and Chaubise Rajya nad the valley kingdoms- Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur. He decided to unify those smaller kingdoms and forecast as the big kingdom. So he started his unifiying mission from the kingdom Nuwakot and found victory in its first attempt in 1744 A.D. After Nuwakot, he took possession of strategic points in the hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. The Valley's communications with the outside world were thus cut off.

Finally, King Prithvi Narayan Shah had the glorious victory over the Kritipur and then approached to the Valley. The succession over the valley was not soeasy but he made it after some attempts. Consequently, Jaya Prakash Malla of Kathmandu managed to escape with his life and took asylum in Patan. When the unification was extended to Patan a few weeks later both Jaya Prakash Malla and the King of Patan, Tej Narsingh Malla, took refuge in Bhaktapur, which was also unified after some time. Thus King Prithvi Narayan Shah unified the Kathmandu Valley and Kathmandu became the capital of the modern Nepal by 1769 A.D. Once the foundation of the Kingdom of Nepal was thus laid, King Prithvi Narayan Shah turned his attention towards the east. The Sena Kingdom of Choudandi was united by 1773 A.D. and Vijaypur, another Sena Kingdom was annexed shortly after.

A Glance to the Wonderland

Nepal, the wonderland, the land of diversity, the land of the natural blessings, the land of the Siddhartha Gautam- Buddha, the land of Sagarmatha- Mount Everest, and many more. The list will go on, perhaps my words may be so less to write about Nepal. The wonderland, I would say, is one of the must visit places of the world.

Nepal, the small country in the world’s map lies in the Asia continent. Its neighboring countries are China India, Bhutan. The total land of Nepal is small however within this small area it engulfs the whole natural beauty anyone could imagine.

The Nepal is the land of diversity. The diversity in language, culture, religion is quite fascinating part of this wonderland. The climate of the country is very good with the summers and the winters. The diversity in the fauna and flora can be best-seen in Nepal.

The lists of the things in Nepal will go on. I will be posting the different aspects and wonders of the Nepal in the coming posts.
